12.3 In. W x 16.2 In. H Brooklyn Bridge Framed Art Print by unknown artist
This photograph of the Brooklyn Bridge, built between1869 and 1883, highlights the suspension cable, deck and stone masonry piers. The bridge, towering far above the East River, connects Brooklyn with lower Manhattan, seen in the distance. In 1883, Harper's Weekly described the bridge, "The work which is most likely to become our most durable monument, and to convey some knowledge of us to the most remote posterity, is a work of bare utility; not a shrine, not a fortress, not a palace, but a bridge."
